As part of my 9 to 5, I select historical news items from our archives and transcribe them for the current edition. This week I stumbled across a front-page interview with a couple who claimed to have witnessed multiple, basketball-sized orbs of light dancing about in the trees just outside their kitchen window. The article did not provide any definitive explanation and, as there were no mentions in following editions, the mystery remains unsolved.
Even if you break it down to a fraction of a fraction of a fraction the universe is far to vast to assume that we are alone, according the Drake Equation. However, Fermi's Paradox is the contradiction between that high statistical probability of extraterrestrial life and the complete lack of evidence for it. Is there life in the universe? I firmly believe there is. Have aliens visited Earth? I doubt it.

The head of a sewing pin held at arm’s length just above the Big Dipper demonstrates the percentage of the night sky that the Hubble Space Telescope was pointed at when it captured the image on the left. A previously considered empty area of space contained over 10,000 galaxies. Not stars...galaxies.
It is a valid point of contention that ‘Hollywood does not make anything original anymore.’ Studios do tend to go back to the well and play the safe-bets more often than not, however there is a good amount of original content in the theaters if you’re looking for it. Horror movies have experienced a resurgence in recent years. Yes, long-running franchises like Scream and Insidious will get squeals in 2026, however original horror films such as the independent slasher Terrifier 3 is the highest-grossing unrated movie in box office history, Terrifier 2 is seventh on that list; Amy Madigan won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar at this year’s Academy Awards for her portrayal of Aunt Gladys in the surprise hit, Weapons; and Sinners made history with a record-breaking 16 nominations, taking home four Oscars. On the other hand, Science-Fiction does get dominated by franchises like Marvel, DC and Star Wars, leaving little room and fewer box-office dollars for more original films like Mickey 17 or Project Hail Mary and I believe this is where that sentiment is most applicable.
The good news is, that on June 12, audiences who feel this way have the opportunity to vote with their wallets. Disclosure Day is not a prequel, sequel, reboot or part of any cinematic universe, it is a completely original story from Master Movie Auteur, Steven Spielberg. From what I’ve gathered from the trailer, Disclosure Day suggests that Fermi’s Paradox is wrong; there is evidence of aliens visiting Earth and the government has covered it up. A hot topic considering the current congressional hearings occurring in real life and President Trump’s declassification of military encounters with UFOs (now called Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP).
Not only does Spielberg have experience with blockbuster hits, he is personally interested in extraterrestrial life. He has even jokingly expressed a desire to be tapped as Earth's official liaison to alien life if they ever reveal themselves. Point being, Spielberg knows what he’s doing and by every indication Disclosure Day should be an amazing movie...or should I say it's going to be out of the world.
